It appears like Windows 8 and the new Outlook 2013 is going to reorganize my (and probably your) digital life by making “online things” easier. I’m one of those power Gmail users, but that said, I was planning to switch to Outlook.com ever since they launched the service. I struggled a lot to find a reason to switch to Outlook.com from Gmail as I love everything about Microsoft. But since no other web mail service currently matches the features of Gmail I was forced to stick with Gmail itself.

But the past several weeks, I spent numerous hours configuring things here and there to find a perfect alternative to Google services – Google Calendar, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Reader, Google Tasks and more – which I currently use. My digital life is was all about Gmail. It’s actually Gmail and not the Google search which glues me to most Google products as they’re all tightly integrated.
But ever since I switched to iPhone and iCloud I began to use more of Microsoft services. And recently I almost quit Google Calendar, Google Tasks, Google Docs, and Google Drive and am now using iCloud (in lieu of Google Tasks and Calendar) , Microsoft SkyDrive (in lieu of Google Drive), and Microsoft Office Web Apps & Microsoft OneNote (in lieu of Google Docs). I believe that these are the perfect alternatives to Google.
How To Sync Gmail With Microsoft Outlook 2013
1. Open Microsoft Office Outlook 2013
2. Go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings…
3. Click “New…”
4. Select “E-mail Account”
Now connect your Gmail account to Outlook via IMAP by entering your account information – Name, E-mail Address, and Password – and Click “Next”.
Note: You need to use Application-specific passwords (sign in required) for Gmail if you’ve enabled 2-step verification.
5. You’re done!
